Get Set for Work is a new inclusive support service delivered by Get Set UK, on behalf of Essex County Council. The programme brings new support services to adults with a learning disability and/or neurodiverse needs, living in Essex. Alongside Essex County Council, we are also working with ECL Inclusive Employment, to engage individuals, their families/carers, and employers across the Essex Region.
This new “Inclusive support for employers and employees” covers multiple strands, including comprehensive job coaching for individuals with learning disabilities and/or neurodiversity in the workplace. The Get Set for Work service will help guide and advise those individuals who face barriers to accessing the workplace. Families and/or carers will also be consulted to ensure the service meets the needs of each individual.
Specific focus will be on supporting employers across Essex in becoming a more inclusive workplace. Many businesses have a desire to become more inclusive but struggle to access suitable training and guidance to equip them to recruit, engage, and retain the varied talent that individuals with learning disabilities and/or neurodiverse needs can offer. Get Set UK are focused on helping these businesses meet their inclusion goals, and guide them towards hiring and retaining individuals, from this often, under-considered talent pool.
Thomas Harley, CEO, Get Set UK, said: “There are some fantastic services in place across Essex that already support individuals with learning disabilities and neuro-divergent needs; we’re really proud to be adding to that wealth of knowledge and expertise to help support those in need and their families and carers through the new Get Set for Work programme.”
Chris Martin, Director for Children, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Autism, Essex County Council, said: “We are super excited to be working with Get Set UK on testing these new and innovative approaches to supporting more people to get into, and stay in, employment. This new offer has been designed based on what local people, their families and local businesses told us was important to them, so we are really looking forward to seeing if our ideas can make a difference. We are grateful to Get Set UK, and our partners ECL, for working together towards our ambition to get more people into meaningful employment.”
