Job Purpose:
As a Get Set for Work Consultant, you will provide information, advice, and guidance to adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals, as well as their families. Your role will involve supporting employees to remain in employment, addressing barriers, and fostering inclusive practices within the workplace.

Qualification Requirements:
Candidates will ideally hold a Level 3 Supported Employment Practitioner qualification & Level 4 Employability Practitioner qualification or equivalent or be willing to work towards these qualifications under supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals who are currently struggling to remain in employment and offer one-on-one support for four months to help them sustain work.
  • Identify their current barriers and the support they are receiving from their employer, providing full assistance to both parties to secure employment.
  • Support adults in developing action plans that outline approaches they can adopt in the future, such as coping strategies or when to ask for help.
  • Engage effectively with adults by introducing new tools and methods to boost their confidence in overcoming barriers and remaining employed.
  • Establish and build rapport with employers to ensure efficient support for individuals with disabilities and promote their integration into the workforce.
  • Advocate for employees to ensure that all parties are aware of their needs and strengths, focusing on positive communication and embedding reasonable adjustments.
  • Assess the needs and barriers of customers through consistent interactions with their families and other support groups ensuring a holistic approach offered.
  • Maintain effective relationships with the customer by offering them support and guidance to eliminate any barriers into employment, e.g. fear of losing benefits or other specific support.
  • Provide high quality information and advice to support the adult to make informed choices and empower them.
  • Ensure the people with disabilities and their families understand the benefits system, and the perks of being in employment.
  • Assist customers to become job ready (when applicable) by coaching and providing employer led advice and guidance, for example job searching.
  • Create awareness among employers about equal opportunities, disability confident practices, and mindful employer practices.

Key Skills Required:

  • Ability to seek out solutions to problems and critically analyse them.
  • Strong time management, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • High level of initiative and motivation to support adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals.
  • Great communication skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Knowledge of employment and equalities law, benefits applications, and appeals processes, as well as reasonable adjustments and inclusive practices.
  • An understanding of the disability sector, either personally or professionally.
  • Drive, enthusiasm, energy, and a positive approach to work.
  • Collaboration, coaching, and mentoring skills demonstrated in a similar working environment.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills in building internal and/or external partnerships, with proactive and innovative approaches positively impacting the team/organisation.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse individuals.
  • Demonstrated communication and negotiation skills in building relationships in a similar working environment.
